Real-time monitoring of levetiracetam effect on the electrophysiology of an heterogenous human iPSC-derived neuronal cell culture using microelectrode array technology

Scientists using a neural co-culture of glutamatergic, GABAergic, and dopaminergic neurons, and astrocytes, uncover mechanisms of levetiracetam efficacy and demonstrate MEA platform as a “gold standard” for modeling complex neural network behavior.

Barrier Index in AxIS Z

Barrier Index measures the integrity of the barrier formed by the cell layer and is a ratio between the resistance at low frequency to the resistance at high frequency. An increase in Barrier Index indicates that the barrier is less leaky, whereas a decrease means the barrier is leakier. The barrier index is influenced by the junctions between cells as well as the opening of channels or pores through the cell membrane (e.g., transient receptor-mediated channel opening). When the Barrier Index Configuration is selected, Media Background, Treatment Only, Time Reference, Vehicle Correction, and Display Interval analysis options are available. Barrier Index requires that a media only control type is assigned to at least one Well Group when designing the plate map.
